Dear Fellow Members,
For many years, the Denominational Concerns Committee ("DCC") has actively and prayerfully monitored the initiatives and decisions of the PC (USA), which are of special interest to Westminster. Following the most recent revisions to our Constitution commonly known as Amendment 10A and the new form of government, plus several church court decisions, the DCC, under the direction of our Session, was asked to gather information on all of the above, and report their findings.
Accordingly, the DCC has been engaged in a wide ranging, balanced inquiry of resource materials and reports. Members have attended national conferences in Minneapolis and Orlando where approximately 2000 pastors and elders gathered to discuss the issues at hand. We want to emphasize that the committee has not yet made any formal recommendation to the Session on how to address the current denominational concerns. Additionally, the Session has not voted to begin consideration of any request to take action on the committee's broad investigation topics let alone the specific question of requesting dismissal to another Reformed body (denomination).
The committee is making available to the congregation many of the resource materials which it recommends as helpful in understanding the issues as well as the process of individual and congregational discernment. An effort has been made to be balanced in the materials included, so please do not assume that the DCC endorses all of the materials. It is safe to say that many of the materials and sites offer opinions and analysis diametrically opposed to the views of the DCC. Many more resources are available through the internet and some web links are included to more easily access various perspectives. Please be patient with the committee, your session and each other as we work through this process.
