Outdoor Education Environments

Each year Westminster Day School plants a Fall and a Spring garden! The children love planting seeds, pulling weeds, watering our vegetables and flowers, tasting the vegetables and observing as our bulbs are starting to peek through the ground!

We have found that gardening provides a wealth of opportunities for children to get their hands dirty and connect with nature while learning valuable lessons across the curriculum.

In order to provide more opportunities for our children to connect with nature, WDS transformed an area of our existing playground into an inviting outdoor classroom. This space is divided into areas of interest including a nature art and discovery area, a construction area, a music and movement area, a gathering area and a flower garden. The classroom will allow children to use all of their senses to explore, experiment, problem-solve and enjoy the natural world!
